Interior Architect strives for awareness

The young man said that Interior Architecture is a new concept in Botswana that can still be tapped into. Masinki pointed out that interior architecture is different from interior design in that the latter deals with space planning inside the house while architecture does for both the inside and out. He further added that the architecture deals more with where to place the service and systems of the house such as where to place a bathtub or the perfect place to put up an aircon.
In addition Masinki said: “Interior architecture is more of how you place items around the house and if the space goes hand-in-hand with the daily household activities.”
He added that it basically deals with the measurement of bodies and activities. The designer said that he is yet to see Batswana embrace construction of their houses and take it to another level.
According to him, Batswana are instead following the same routine that has been there for ages of just building houses the traditional way with nothing to give them extra value. He pointed out that usually when he gets clients, challenges arise when his they do not allow him to freely do his work. He said that it becomes a bit hard for him when they do not take the recommendations he makes.
“They do not allow for creativity and this is a field of creativity. One needs to play around,” he said.
However Masinki, a graduate from the University of Limkokwing, said that there is yet hope because with a bit of education Batswana would slowly but surely learn to appreciate what his line of profession has to offer.
