After the constituency chairperson Chomi Letole told Mmegi that they were counselling those who had lost Bulela Ditswe with hope of retaining them, Pheto came back and said nothing of the sort is taking place.

The MP, whose appeal against his narrow loss to assistant Vincent Seretse last year was rejected, said the branch chairperson was lying and had never spoken to him. He said they are not even on talking terms.

“They do not even invite me to their branch meetings. I have not yet changed my mind,” said Pheto.

Letole had earlier told Mmegi that they were counselling to ensure that those who had not taken the loss well get on board to help the party retain the seat in the October general elections.

Letole said his branch committee had been in talks with Pheto to hear his complaints and the reasons why he may want to quit their party.

Pheto had earlier announced that he would be contesting as an independent candidate.  Letole insisted that as per their talks with the MP, they do not think he will quit the ruling party.

“Our constituency congress will be on Friday where we expected our members to indorse Ian Khama’s name as the party president in the coming party special congress. At the congress, we will be addressing some of the problems we are facing. We had also invited our Member of Parliament to officiate at the congress,” he said.

Letole said that amongst the reasons for engaging aggrieved members is to try reviving the party in the constituency.

Lerole said even if Pheto were to go independent, the BDP would not lose elections.
