As I see It

I pinched myself, twice!

I had to pinch myself to check whether I was awake or dreaming in my sleep! Can anyone, let alone a whole president of the Republic of Botswana, get more hypocritical? President Khama is one president since the advent of multiparty democracy in Botswana who dreams loud of eliminating the opposition in the impending October general elections. He ardently wishes to win all 57 constituencies come October! Suddenly, tongue-in-the-cheek he has compassion for the beleaguered BNF! We know he hates the dirty political game; shouldn’t he refrain from making politics not only dirtier but cheaper by talking from both sides of his mouth?

At the same public rally where evidently he was struggling for diversionary words in the week that the  Leader of the Opposition, Dumelang Saleshando was making a meal of him and his party by exposing him as an untrustworthy leader who had gleefully reported that from July 2013, power cuts would be a thing of the past, when contrarily, power outages came back with a vengeance! In that scenario of obvious mental agony and confusion, when  at a loss what to think, say and do, the befuddled, dazed, impertinent, imperious and impudent president  could do no better but demean himself by articulating a fabrication and circulating and broadcasting it - leader of the opposition in some precarious position, because : “........These three (Rammidi, Gobotswan and Lucas), say Saleshando is a dictator, my source within the BCP revealed that the three prefer James Olesitse as the party president....”

President Khama is a clown, he  should have rather kept quiet about his source of information to portray the BCP as divided at the top; were the hearsay honestly from an informer , then I can bet , it must be from Directorate of Intelligence and Security Services (DIS) plant, a provocateur agent who is bereft of what to report to his/her bosses in the DIS. Who won’t admit agents planted mischievously in the opposition parties must be hitting a blank, since the opposition parties are loyal and legal entities who aren’t intent on subverting the government by illegal methods but operate meticulously within the law and the constitution of the Republic ! The DIS agents infiltrated into the opposition must be frustrated on what to feed the president’s idle curiosity. Botswana opposition, is squeaky clean and beyond reproach. ‘Plants’ in the opposition parties have nothing to report in the way of suspected covert plots against the government; the agents since required to report anyway, in order to earn their keep, are forced to report about nonexistent, and nonsensical plots within the BCP and play the fool ! Moreover who can believe the eyewash that the BCP president is a dictator? The reckless and public broadcasting of the BCP president as a dictator gives away the president as operating below his status.  Watch out Mr President the frustrated agent(s) are leading you on a wild goose chase. Pasop! Agents deployed to infiltrate innocent organisations, paid handsomely to report whatever suspected mischief, will lie and tell imponderable fictions, to deserve the loot.  Prudent and intelligent leadership should have monitors to ensure that the agents on the ground report without embellishment.  Excellency, beware the intelligence agents who take you for a ride and make you lie publicly!

The second time I pinched myself was when I read Minister Mokaila’s statements. The Minister of MEWR doesn’t only shun solar power because of its high installation costs, but can you believe it, it’s  useless at  night! Really? How did this man, whom I have always regarded as one of the rare star ministers in Khama’s cabinet, get his job? Solar power that charges only in the day, when the sun shines in a cloudless sky; where did he get his political stripes from? In the US, cabinet ministerial candidates have to go through public hearing to ascertain they qualify to be appointed! Otherwise their cabinets would forever be inundated with rotting deadwood like ours and America wouldn’t have achieved what she has achieved! Mokaila would have flopped the test had he been scrutinised before appointment. But, since we apply arbitrary criteria here: sibling-ship, friendship, and potential sycophancy, dregs find their way into the BDP cabinet, are recruited and circulated in parastatals; perhaps it’s one reason that prompted the BCP to introduce shadow cabinet mechanism to expose the menace of BDP political hogwash. Yes, I think it’s time the opposition demonstrated, it isn’t only better in generating and advocating sound political policies and programmes, but has brainpower to execute these policies!

Minister Mokaila according to reports, thinks Honourable Saleshando is an opportunist who takes advantage of ‘crises’ to make political mileage! Doesn’t he know that an opposition party that doesn’t make political mileage of ruling party deficiencies is a dead opposition?

He and his Domkrag is literally dom (daft)! Let’s doff our hats off for the splendid job the BCP president is doing by stripping the BDP regime of the veneer of political relevance. The BDP has been bluffing and playing pope; they aren’t infallible!
