Magitare remixes EP in the making

The remixes will make their way into an EP, which will be released in June.  The track continues to make waves in the three countries and DJs Trik, Phoenixx, Acasoul and Djembe Monks are some of the disc jockeys that are remixing the tune.

Benz teamed up with the trail-blazing dance and music outfit for her first single last year in May.  The 21-year-old is excited her fellow DJs will create some of the catchiest tunes out of her maiden single.  While her fellow DJs work towards remixing the track, DJ Laninah welcomes Kwabatsha to Gaborone next weekend for a video shoot.

“We are shooting the video for Magitare.  It has to go to Flava Dome and other television studios,” she told Showbiz.

She added that working with Kwabatsha has proved a breakthrough for her and hopes after the video shoot they will consider more projects together.  Kwabatsha whose focus was initially on the traditional genré stormed into the music industry in 2012 taking music lovers by surprise with their single Bhatshi, a house tune, which set the showbiz industry aglow.

Co-founder of Kwabatsha Dance Company, Trust Madolo Gumbo also confirmed the Botswana video shoot.

He originally composed the song Magitare while DJ Laninah came up with the beats.

“We are shooting the video in Botswana.  The video has a groovy set-up and the script was done by Tebeka Siphe from Cape Town,” he said.

DJ Laninah admires the work Kwabatsha has done in Zimbabwe as well as the rave reviews the song is getting in the neighbouring country.

DJ Laninah developed a passion for deejaying while at school doing talent shows.

However, at the time, her parents thought it was a fleeting passion that would soon die a natural death.

“They thought it was a phase that was going to pass, it did not make sense that a girl wanted to be a DJ.  But my mum later realised it is something I love and is the one who paid for me to attend a DJ academy.  My dad also allows me to go for gigs,” she said.

At the DJ Academy, her intention was to equip herself with the basics of the trade.

But she admits it put a bit of strain on her studies.  She is a third year Bachelor of Arts (Environmental Science) student at the University of Botswana.

She draws inspiration from entertainers like Vee (Odirile Sento) and Zeus (Game Bantsi) who have established themselves as brands locally and internationally.

Although she does not go to church, her pre-gig ritual is prayer.  “I have a special bible.  I have it next to me when I sleep,” she says.

Those that have attended her gigs credit her for a brilliant mind that always comes up with fresh and exclusive ideas for her sets.

“She can throw in a Rhumba track in the middle of a House set.  It usually works wonders for me,” said Mooketsi John, a fan who has followed her budding career.
