BAC celebrates cultural diversity

The project is an initiative by the students, which aims to share the lengths that tourism can go if it incorporated culture.

Present at the event were stakeholders and the students’ potential employers in the hospitality industry from hotels, travel and tour companies as well as the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture.

The event included various presentations that were portrayed in the form of poetry, singing and dancing.   The message communicated illustrated the lifestyles of the different tribes in Botswana and Africa as a whole.

These included a showcase of Baherero, Basarwa, Bakalaka, Swati and Nigerian cultures, which can all be used to sell their respective countries as a part of the tourism packages. Speaking at the activity-filled event, Faculty Director Dr Byron Brown, said that culture plays a very important role in any country’s tourism.   He said that those in the tourism sector should come up with initiatives that can fuse the two together for a better packaging of a country.

Furthermore, Brown acknowledged his students’ efforts and commended them for staging and sharing their work with other people.

He added that he has no doubt that if given a chance to work, the students would be able to impress in the tourism and hospitality industry.
