This was proved on Friday night when the men in uniform battled it out at the Sir Seretse Khama Barracks (SSKB) auditorium for the Mr Botswana Defence Force title.

The young men’s talent was visible from the start when they kicked off the first leg of the competition with a Talent Show.  The passion, effort, creativity and talent made sure that everything fell into place.  The contestants had simply avoided the monotony of repetition as each one of them had a special form of talent to showcase.

There was a variety show of singing and dancing, to playing the guitar, reciting poetry as well as doing a bit of theatrical performances.  The young men could simply be compared to a world-class fruit basket.

If one wanted a kiwi fruit, strawberry, pineapple or just any fruit, it was all there.

The performances were enchanting.  However, once an army man always an army man.  This was evident in the level of discipline that was shown by contestants through out.

Although they had fun on stage, they did so in a poised manner that did not give them away.

Meanwhile, the woman who graced the occasion in hopes of getting a glimpse of the young men’s toned bodies in briefs had their hopes and expectations crushed as no ‘skin’ was flashed.

In consolation to their diminished hopes they instead had to appreciate the army men as they paraded and strutted in suits. After the parades the top five were selected from the overall contenders and put on the spot with some questions, which they answered eloquently.  Meshack Moreo who was a hit with the women right from the start was crowned Mr BDF 2014.

Harry Mothobi scooped the second prize and Kgaketso Kgotlhang walked away in third place.  Unlike many local pageants that always see contestants struggle to get their prizes years later, the winners and others who participated were all given their prizes to take home on the day.

The BDF organising team had also done a sterling job of going an extra mile and securing themselves more than enough sponsors for the event.
