T20 cricket tournament starts on a positive note

The tournament was delayed for two weeks due to heavy rains. It started over the weekend with Gaborone One team of Under-19 players taking on Gaborone Four.

The young players proved too much for the old guards, who could only score 103 runs.

Gaborone One comfortably surpassed the target in 15.2 overs for the loss of only one wicket. Mmoloki Mmoketsi showed some brilliant bowling skills as he bagged four wickets for the youthful side.

In another enthralling match, Gaborone Four redeemed themselves in a four-wicket victory against Gaborone Three. Gaborone Four posted 159 runs for six in 19.3 overs while Gaborone Three got 156 runs for nine.

Hard-hitting batsman, Imran Khan scored 64 runs for Gaborone Four while Kagiso Modise scored 46 for Gaborone Three.

The opening matches showed that it will be a tough tournament as all the teams showed their mettle.

Gaborone Two all rounder, James Moses hit a series of sixes and fours as he banged 68 runs and took three wickets to help his team to a one run win over Gaborone Three. Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) fixtures and publicity secretary, Sumod Damodar told Mmegi Sport that at the end of the T20 competition, the same teams will compete in a 50 overs tournament.

He said the four Gaborone teams have not yet been given proper names as they want to name them after sponsors.
