Voters roll to open for inspection

The general voter registration was conducted from October 4 to 27, 2013 at all IEC outstation offices, and other places designated for voters roll inspection would be conducted from March 20 to April 30, 2014.

Maroba encouraged the public to participate in the inspection of the roll and register their objections of inclusion in the roll for that constituency of any person’s name.

“All objections should be delivered to the office of the principal registration officer of that constituency before the expiry of the 42 days. During registration it is impossible to detect those who intend to deliberately misinform registration officers for illegal registration,” he said.

He noted that there are other unavoidable but easy to correct finger errors by registration officers particularly with codes for polling districts and polling stations, Omang numbers, sequence of applicant’s names as they appear on the National ID.

“Some occurrences may result in your registration being rejected and this status will remain until voting day unless you or someone else can draw the attention of the IEC for immediate correction.”

Further on, he stated that inspection is one process of cleaning the roll for final validation and it is important because the law does not allow correction at the time of voting or outside the designated inspection period.

Maroba said it would be devastating to realise that some people cannot vote after queuing for some time at a polling station.

“It is best to know your status at this time of the process. If your name or ID is not correct and you notice during the inspection, call IEC IT section for such minor corrections,” he said.

IEC spokesperson said all the polling stations in and outside the country will be opened at specified time to receive applicants for registration.

He encouraged all those who have not registered to do so. Secondary supplementary voter registration will commence on the  and end on May 1 to 18.
