Khoza excites disco fans in 2014

Khoza Kehakgametse has come out of oblivion with another exciting offering called, Dubula 2014.

“It has been a long seven years since I did my first project.  When I decided to make a return I had to ensure that I bring something really good because that is what people expect if you have been missing for so long,” the shy and tall musician told Showbiz.

Produced by South African keyboardist Tando Zinto the new album seeks to fully explore the disco genre.

Tracks such as Moshanyana, with its synchronised synthesiser keyboards and a penetrating bass drum should have mapantsula dancing in circles. Majita is another track with the potential to endear the musician to disco lovers and push him a few notches up the popularity states.

It should be much easier for his followers to relate with the track.  The song’s title and lyrics pay tribute to his peers.

Another track that should push the musician up the popularity stakes is One Ole Kae?  A viby number relating a painful experience of crime in which one friend desperately tried to call another during an attack without success.

“I believe I was lucky to meet Tando because he has created the kind of sound that made it easer for me to fit in the lyrics. The response has been fantastic from the fans and the radio stations.  This is a motivating factor for me,” Khoza said.

Being nominated for a Botswana Musicians Union Awards (BOMU) award on the first attempt in 2007, Khoza felt honoured.  He, however, has decried the fact that disco musicians were left in the cold in the last year’s edition claiming there was no category for them.

“Well, there was no way I could have entered because my last album was released seven years ago.  But there are other disco musicians who have been doing albums,” Khoza said.

On the contrary, BOMU president, Phempheretlhe Pheto has said that such a category was included, but no musician showed interest.
