BAA has been hit by crisis after a number of officials resigned early this month, triggering the dissolution of the committee. Those who quit are secretary general, Gilbert Keakantse, his deputy, Virginia Staddon, treasurer, Brian Mosweu and additional member, Kenneth Kikwe. The resignation only left

Mooketsi, his deputy Glody Dube, the public relations officer, Ipolokeng Ramatshaba and one additional member in office. Though the date for a new election has not been set, Mooketsi said yesterday that he will not contest any post.

The election should be held within 21 days from the date the committee was dissolved. “The honest truth is that I do not want to stand. My intention is not to stand, but obviously, these are things I should share with people close to me first,” said Mooketsi, who survived a motion of no confidence last year.

He lamented that he has not been appreciated though he has achieved a lot during his reign.

“When you do things to your best and people turn around and point fingers at you, it is not nice.

I don’t want to be in the middle of disorder. We would be far if there is no petty politics in our athletics,” he said.

He is aware that the quartet that resigned wants to stand for re-election, but insists that is not his reason for shying away.

In fact, Thari said there was no way the four can win elections after they unceremoniously left office.

“I am aware the same people who resigned want to stand, but they won’t win.

I don’t see them winning this time around,” he said.

BAA elections were constitutionally scheduled for February next year.

The dissolved executive assured stakeholders that preparations for the African Youth Games remain on course despite the setback. A sub-committee selected to prepare for the games is still in-charge.
