Inside the BCP shadow cabinet

The president of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) Dumelang Saleshando has finally introduced his shadow cabinet.
Speaking at a press conference in Gaborone yesterday, Saleshando said there was a delay in releasing the party’s government executive because of the demarcation process, which took longer than expected.
The BCP Act, said Saleshando, should be viewed as to say the leading opposition is prepared for 2014 general elections. He said no individual person influenced him when choosing his shadow cabinet, which will be sustained beyond 2014 if the BCP do not win elections.
The BCP did not expand and go outside the frames of the current cabinet of 16 ministers and eight assistants of President Ian Khama.
But Education is divided into two, Higher Education and Basic Education while Ministry of Defence, Justice and Security is merged with presidential affairs and public administration. “All ministers and assistant ministers will soon start their work, and respond to any issues related to their ministries. The shadow cabinet will work closely with BCP central committee and it will report to the party president,” he said.
On April 5 to 6, there will be a retreat for all shadow cabinet ministers and their assistants to conclude on issues of priority for each portfolio.
The BCP manifesto will be launched on April 26 in Gaborone.
