Malebogo Viola Jackson, 25 and Gagoresepe Tefo Mothupi, 26 are alleged to have stolen a Red Toyota Corolla Allex worth P45,000 at Mogoditshane in January. The vehicle is reported to belong to Andries Onkabetse.

The prosecutor, Joshua Ntau, said the accused persons crossed into South Africa two days after they stole the vehicle. “Since then, the other accused person, Jackson has been in South Africa until this Saturday when she returned and was arrested at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport,” said Ntau.

He told the court that after the accused persons were interrogated on Sunday afternoon, it was established that the vehicle is in South Africa.

“Pre-arrangements were made with the people who are alleged to be in possession of the vehicle keys so that our officers can go and identify it,” said Ntau.

Chief Magistrate, Linah Mokibe-Oahile granted the two accused persons conditional bail and ordered them to come for mention on April 14. Each of the accused was ordered to pay money amounting to half the value of the stolen vehicle and surrender their travel documents to the Serious Crime Squad.

They will report twice a week to the police. The state did not oppose their bail on grounds that they were co-operating.
