An estimated P30 million has been set aside in the 2014/15 budget the establishment of the Authority. According to the Committee of Supply speech for the Ministry of Minerals, Energy, and Water Resources, this will enable the creation of an enabling environment that will attract the private sector to invest in energy, water and wastewater sectors, as the regulator will be responsible for economic regulation.
However, Batswana and businesses have been warned to prepare for more expensive electricity in future as the private sector invests in the provision of electricity. The ministry warns that independent power producers’ tariffs will have a knock on effect on the national tariffs.
