North sweeps cluster policing awards

The north got the Minister’s Award through Maun while the top three stations came from the region. Maun Police Station was tops followed by Francistown and Gerald.

The Best Practice Award was won by Sehithwa Cluster, Toteng Cluster, Bothathogo Cluster and Kgosing Cluster. Itekeng Cluster from Gumare got position two. Five clusters from Maun and one from Pandamatenga were in position three.

The clusters were in the same order in the Community Commitment Award. The chairman of Maun clusters, Kgosi Rodgers Marumo said they won the awards because all the chiefs and village leaders in their beat are committed to fighting crime. He said the most important thing in cluster policing is public education.

“We want everyone who lives in Maun to know that crime is not welcome in our village,” he said. He encouraged other clusters to emulate Maun to make sure Botswana is safe from criminal activities because crime has a major impact on the economy.

In his vote of thanks Kgosi Lotlamoreng II said that members of the public will always support the police in the fight against crime. “This should be a challenge to other clusters who did not win in these awards, to make sure that they work hard next time,” he said. He asserted that crime is committed by members of the public and against members of the public, hence they must be committed in the fight against crime.
