Gunners thrash Ecco

The young striker rose high to head home a cross from fellow forward, Nsongamali Shabby to break the deadlock in the second minute at Lobatse Stadium.

Though he did not show much class in front of goal, he proved vital as he got the three goals to ease Gunners’ relegation woes.

He combined well with Shabby, who somehow managed to find him twice with deadly albeit misplaced passes. The duo teamed up nine minutes after the first goal for Modikwa to make it 2-0 from Shabby’s miscued ball.

A stunned ECCO tried to contain Gunners before attempting attacks and Trinity Nko’s powerful shot from outside his boot was deflected for a corner in the 20th minute.

Gunners reacted quickly and newly called up Zebras winger, Kagelelo Kgosimore outpaced his marker to send a low cross into the middle. The cross was met by Shabby who once again failed to control the ball well but he still managed find Modikwa to score the third goal and sent supporters into ruptures of celebrations.

Gunners continued to enjoy better possession with midfielder, Mosimanegape Ntwaetsile’s good passing easily opening the visitors’ defence. However, Shabby’s lack of basic scoring skills came to the fore as he fluffed chance after chance.

Despite failing to convert easy chances, the muscular striker shook the ECCO defence with his running and shielding. When he was replaced due to injury early in the second half, ECCO found the confidence to go forward.

ECCO’s veteran striker, Malepa Bolelang had a quiet afternoon playing in an unfamiliar midfield position. His first chance of the match came in the 51st minute when he unleashed a beautiful volley which went narrowly past the left post. Musa Ohilwe made sure Gunners kept a clean sheet when he cleared off the line in the 55th minute. Malepa nearly gave ECCO a consolation in the dying minutes but Wagarre Dikago was equal to the task with a quick reflex save.
