Speaking during a kgotla meeting addressed by Assistant Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri this week, Sesana said that government developments are yet to reach the area.

He added that the lack of such developments has lead to some residents falling into deep frustration, drinking alcohol excessively and sinking further into poverty.

He added that with developments that government pledged not materialising the deepening frustration in the community has driven some residents to excessively abuse alcohol.

Adding to his comments, Kethamiseng Phetolo confirmed that alcohol binging is so serious in their settlement that it has thwarted government’s efforts to fight HIV/AIDS.

He said the youth in New Xade are engaged in drinking alcohol at the highest rate.  He said that efforts to control this has hit a snag.

Responding to their grievances, Matlhabaphiri said residents need to appreciate government’s efforts to bring developments to their area.

He said that it is a grave concern that the youth engage in alcohol drinking something that should be addressed quickly.

He said as the government they will continue to look into the issues and address them accordingly, working hand in hand with the responsible departments.
