The two-day summit comes at a time when the BAA is deep crisis after half of its officials quit, rendering the troubled association rudderless.

The Uganda summit draws together several African associations and is aimed at equipping them with information on how to run the sport.

Dube was picked to make a presentation based on Botswana’s recent strides in international athletics.

The last three years have seen Botswana win a first Commonwealth Games gold in 2011, a first World Championships gold and Olympics silver in 2012.

Dube said he was preparing for the presentation and expects Botswana to benefit immensely from the meeting. The conference runs from Saturday and Sunday.

“This is quite an important meeting for every athletics association. Associations that are having problems will get to interact with other associations and perhaps learn how to deal with issues. It is the same for us, interaction with other associations will definitely be eye-opening,” Dube told Mmegi Sport.

The summit will look into the state of athletics in the continent and try to address the general challenges faced by associations. In Kampala, Dube will watch the Africa Cross Country Championships that take place immediately after the summit. “Straight after the summit, we will watch the cross country championships in Kampala,” he said.

Botswana has representatives in the junior and senior categories of the competition. Musa Badupi will compete in the junior girls event while Kaelo Mosalagae and Rapula Diphoko will hoist the country’s flag in the senior men category.

Dube is confident the three will put up a strong challenge.
