BMC Stop Marauding BDF XI

The newly crowned Mascom Top Eight champions were expected to make easy work of BMC, but faltered in front of a paltry crowd.

The army side wasted numerous chances early in the game to share the spoils with the struggling home side.

It was clear from the onset that the BMC defence would struggle to contain BDF’s three-pronged attack of Khumbulani Madziba, captain Mokgathi Mokgathi and Master Masitara.

The Lobatse outfit’s back four committed the first error as early as the fifth minute and goalkeeper, Edwin Mokibe, had to parry the ball more than twice to deny BDF XI.

The BMC defence continued to crack and Mokgathi  failed to capitalise on Madziba’s beautiful cross from the left in 15th minute, shooting wildly over the crossbar.

A minute later, the BDF strike force broke loose again, Masitara ripping through the defence to set up Mokgathi who made a clever run into space but once again failed to bury an easy chance five metres from the goal line.

It would take BMC almost 40 minutes to pose any danger.

Phenyo Molefhe squeezed in a cross for Sageby Sandaka and the Zimbabwean forward bravely took on three defenders enroute to his countryman Takudzwa Ndoro’s post and was unlucky not to score.

The attack seemed to spur BDF XI into action as they piled pressure in an attempt to get a goal before the break. Both sides fought to get an early second half goal with BMC on the ascendancy.

They nearly took the lead when Boitshoko Zikhale’s powerful shot from an acute angle hit the top left corner of the BDF goal before bouncing back into play a minute after re-start.

As the see-saw battle continued, Madziba nearly broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, fully utilising a quick counterattack with a one touch shot that took Mokibe by surprise and hit the cross bar.

BMC whose head coach Daniel Nare watched the game from the stand following a suspension, seemed content with a single point while BDF XI were left ruing the many squandered chances.
