MP Mabiletsa: Diphaphatha Tenders Causing Wars

Mabiletsa has seen various council wards in Mochudi experiencing new problems with the P6,000 a month Ipelegeng tenders that empowers individuals to feed the Ipelegeng labourers with brunch. But the lucrative monthly wages of the tenders has seen just every age group, from young people to the elderly and the paupers all clamouring for the tenders, with each group accusing the other of unfair advantage.

MP Mabiletsa however, says he long saw this problem coming;

“In a country where the youths are unemployed, the elderly are also wallowing in poverty, what can they do if not to fight for the meagre tenders on offer?

“I sympathise with them all, I sympathise with the community; this signifies a broader problem of a failed education system that has failed over the years to empower the youth, now all age groups have nowhere to go, except to fight for diphaphatha tenders; our people are wallowing in acute employment”.

About a week ago there was a similar problem regarding the diphaphatha tender in Boseja South, because people are simply desperate to have a means of employment; this problem will soon spiral out of control and reach every corner of the country”. Mabiletsa also says he is not surprised that even VDC’s now want a slice of action in the diphaphatha tenders;  They are part of the community, they are not remunerated, their only option is to fight”, the MP said.

President Ian Khama who also re-introduced Ipelegeng for the unemployed poor when he took office in 2008, two years ago introduced bread and cool drinks for the Ipelegeng labourers after government found that they work on empty stomachs. The menu has since been improved in some parts of the country like Gaborone to include bogobe and vegetables.
