Leshies Falling A Marvel

Leshie staged her first one hour solo show, Falling, on Friday at the Maru -a- Pula Moving Space theatre. The poet, singer and theatrical performer delivered a performance that has shown she has matured over the years.

Like good mature wine, Leshie gave her audience a lingering electrifying effect that is bound to last for sometime if not forever. The performer showed flexibility with her smooth transition of fusing poetry and song as she dished out her act.

Her style has some Afro centrism merged with a bit of modernity and free spiritedness that gives it a magical end. The first half set of Leshie’s performance was laid back and smooth. Her act was complimented by slow acoustic guitar and drum sounds. However, the performer came back amplified for the second half, which was higher charged and revved up.

Clad in a red figure hugging dress, Leshie showed the audience her fierce side as a performer. She literally brought alive a rendition of Lauryn Hill’s Unplugged alive, but with a Leshie twist to it. Not only does she have a rich voice but she also rap, which is a bonus on her abilities. Her Took A Boy proved to be a hit with the audience, but so were others such as Hello Mr and Cleopatra.

Poet and singer Mandisa Mabuthoe backed Leshie on the vocals, Bosky the Percussionist, Flo on Guitar, Boleng aka Atmos (backing vocals), Lex da Boxcutter. On theatrics was Steady Onx & Kgotla Molefe of Art of the Soul.
