Rains: Not enough to raise alarm

TAUNG

Lillian Tau (49) - In the past few years we were terrified by heavy rainfalls, as our yards were always flooded.  We thank God that the culverts and trenches have been built across our communities. Most of the water flows to these culverts, which has really helped us a lot as our yards no longer get affected by rain.  Though some of the water flows from the upper side of the street and gets stuck in some homes.  It is better than in 1999 when I moved here, as it was impossible to leave my house then.

Onkgopotse Moreetsi - I have not experienced any trouble concerning rainfall since we moved here. We have lived here for a month now.  I also feel that it is good for the rainy season to be upon us, as we have long waited for it.

Students from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Onkagetse Motswagae 21 and Kopo Tshwenyana 17 - Even though we are happy that it is raining, we are concerned about the flooding roads since the water makes it hard for us to enter or get out of our yards.  If left for a longer time, the water poses a serious health hazard, especially to children who play in it.

MOGODITSHANE/S’MORDEN

Maggie Mupfururiwa - The heavy rains more especially yesterday’s rain left us in a terrible situation as our yard and roads were flooded.  It made it hard for us to walk in, out, or around the yard.  Even fetching water from a nearby public standpipe is difficult.

Silence Takobana - We are left in a heartbreaking situation as water flooded the whole yard.  Yesterday, we could not enter or get out of both the yard and house because there was water everywhere.  When I got home from work, I had to take off my shoes to enter the house.  I could not get in or out of the house though I have to fetch water from the standpipe outside the house.  Our bathroom is also outside, so we were in a very sticky situation.

Unidentified Resident

Tuesday’s heavy rainfall left the ward soaked in water.  The yard was muddy everywhere.  There were two houses where the owners faced a terrible ordeal, as their cars were stuck in mud.  The owners had to use public transport to work.
