Gumbo replaces Bright at GU

Gumbo is an experienced hand who once coached the Zimbabwe national team. He sealed the move to GU this week while the club’s disciplinary committee met Bright at their White City office on Monday evening.

The hearing was adjourned to today at 5:30 pm when Bright is expected to be given the boot. He has been accused of insubordination and negligence after allegations that he allocated rooms to players and technical officials when the club went to play SuperSport United in the CAF Confederations Cup in South Africa but left out management.

He is also being accused of putting the name of the club into disrepute by asking for complementary tickets to give to players relatives and friends ahead of the SuperSport game in front of the club’s supporters.

He has been charged with verbally assaulting Kgololo Kgogobi at Lucas Moripe Stadium and poor performance.

Bright confirmed attending the hearing on Monday, but said he was not in a position to discuss the matter. “I am on suspension and I am not allowed to make a comment on this issue,” he said. Meanwhile, Gumbo is expected to be introduced to the players either tomorrow or Friday. He may watch the team in action against Notwane on Sunday while he awaits the release of his permits.

Gumbo has been in town since last week though GU secretary, Hebert Letsebe has repeatedly distanced the club from the coach.

“I have not heard about Gumbo joining us and I cannot say anything at the moment. George Mogopodi is in charge of the team,” he said. But information reaching Mmegi Sport is that Gumbo will be unveiled as the new coach. Letsebe has dismissed speculation that Bright will eventually be fired insisting the club is looking into his case.
