Leshie to stage Falling

 

It will be delivered in an assortment of acts that include singing, poetry and dancing, all revolve around the theme of love.

The artist said that she feels she has come of age where she is able to stage her works throughout the years from her early days of performance in 2007. 

She added that she is now confident enough to go solo.

Leshie added: “I have done a lot of performances and have written lots of songs and poems so my material is enough to reach the one hour set.”  Furthermore, she said that after performing a 20-minute set in Bulawayo last year, she decided to throw herself a challenge to make it into an hour.

Leshie also revealed that she chose the theme for Falling based on the extensively explored subject of love. She added that the theme on falling either in love or life, but not expecting to be caught by anyone else.

The poet said that Falling would for the first time offer the audience a rare opportunity to experience her talent in an intimate space.  She pointed out that her stories would be told through poetry, song and theatre accompanied by acoustic instruments. 

She mentioned that she has collaborated with designer Aobakwe Molosiwa to stage dress her as the outfit plays an important role in the outlook of the performance as a whole. Leshie Lovesong became a member of Exodus Live Poetry in 2006. She has performed at an array of platforms, ranging from The Annual Infinite Word Festivals in Gaborone to the Poetavango Annual Festival in Maun as well as Intwasa KoBulawayo in Zimbabwe (2013). 

She also participated in the conceptualisation of two plays written in efforts towards sustainable development of the ecosystems and human life in and around the Okavango River. 

The plays, River Cousins and The River Unites Us, were performed in Namibia and Angola in 2012.  She co-wrote, and acted in the poetic play, The Bedspread, launched at the Sex Actually Festival in Johannesburg, South Africa in the same year. 

She is currently working towards the release of her debut EP (Extended Play), titled Sunflowers And Strawberries: Of Sowing And Reaping.
