Minister denies land collapse at Phase IV

Answering a question in Parliament yesterday, Mokalake said he dispatched a team comprising the Department of Town and Country Planning and the Department of Technical and Geological Surveys to investigate.

“The investigation did not identify any area with collapsing danger to the residents of the area north of Gandukuni Road in Phase IV,” he said.

Mokalake added that prior to allocation of plots in Phase IV, the then Ministry of Local Government and Lands engaged engineering consultants, Sir Alexander Gibb and Partners, in 1979 to carry out feasibility studies for the development of Gaborone West. He emphasized that soil samples were tested and classified, hence the soil at Marulamantsi Ward was considered good for construction.

The question was from the MP for Gaborone West South, Botsalo Ntuane, who had said land at Marulamantsi Ward north of Gandukuni Ward was collapsing.
