Criminal lunatic seeks release from jail

Sedumedi was a vibrant 30 year-old when he went to jail, but he now cuts a sorry figure of a 47 year-old man after 17 years ‘inside.’ He now wants his continued incarceration reviewed because he has never undergone a medical check up after he was thrown in jail.
He applied to the Court of Appeal (CoA) for leave to appeal but withdrew the matter because the route he had taken was not appropriate. Appearing before CoA judge Isaac Lesetedi, Sedumedi’s attorney Kabelo Nkwe of Nkwe Attorneys made an application to withdraw the matter.
“We wish to withdraw the matter because the route taken here is not appropriate. We will write a letter to the Registrar of the High Court for the appellant (Sedumedi) to go for medical check up and then apply to the High Court for a review,” Nkwe submitted.
Should he be found to be fit, Sedumedi is likely to be released as he has served a considerable number of years in jail.
Sedumedi was found guilty and convicted for murder by the then High Court Judge Dr Unity Dow for the murder of Mokwadi Mongweotsile on July 10, 1997 in Old Naledi location.
He was also convicted of causing grievous bodily harm on the same day to Nnyana Jacob after stabbing her with a knife. The last conviction was that of malicious damage to property as he was convicted of unlawfully breaking down a door belonging to Mmasenda Motukwa in Old Naledi.
In all convictions, judge Dow found that at the time of committing the crimes Sedumedi was insane.
“The criminal lunatic Sedumedi is to continue as a psychiatric outpatient at the Lobatse Mental Hospital or such other place as shall be considered appropriate by Lobatse Mental Hospital,” Dow ordered.
