Julius Malema’s party stated in its 2014 elections manifesto, launched on Saturday at Tembisa in the East Rand, 'The EFF government will work towards African isolation of Botswana, which has been home of an imperialist military base and push for progressive internal reforms within Botswana which should involve the people of Botswana.'

This is not the first time Botswana attracted tongue-lashing from former youth league president of the ruling African National Congress. About three years ago Malema accused Botswana of being a puppet of United States of America imperialism. 'The ANC Youth League will also establish a Botswana command team, which will work towards uniting all oppositional forces in Botswana to oppose the puppet regime of Botswana, led by the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP),' Malema said at the time.

Weeks after this statement, he was suspended and then expelled from the ANC, accused various violations of the constitution, including bringing the party into disrepute through his utterances and statements on Botswana and sowing divisions in the ranks of the ANC. Other top ANCYL officials also appeared on the same charges.
