BOMU rallies behind Rakhudu

Last December BOMU Executive Committee officials declared via a nationwide broadcast of the BOMU music awards that they will be rallying behind Rakhudu, the BOMU patron, to retain his parliamentary seat.

Rakhudu had spoken at length during the BOMU awards night of how he intends to leave a legacy for the music industry through lobbying for changes required to turn around the fledgling union and the music industry at large.

On Thursday BOMU president Phempheretlhe Pheto, urged musicians residing in the Gaborone North constituency such as Odirele ‘Vee’ Sento, to up the ante. Pheto, who also resides in the constituency, announced that he would take the lead in campaigning for the BOMU patron, also the assistant Minister of Trade and Industry.

It is not yet clear whether the campaign will be carried out by individuals or BOMU will draw a deliberate strategy to campaign for the MP.

Rakhudu attended the Thursday event where he witnessed BOMU unveiling a new branded car, the first to be owned by the organisation.

Rakhudu was also asked to tell the gathering, which included mostly musicians, the demarcation of his constituency, upon which he said it runs from BBS Mall, all the way to Phakalane.

Another BOMU official Seabelo Modibe encouraged musicians and their friends to register for elections with Gaborone North residential addresses in the on-going registration.

For his part Rakhudu promised BOMU that he will expedite the release of their funds from the Department of Culture, after learning that BOMU is yet to receive their votes.

Last year Rakhudu is said to have helped negotiate for the release of P500,000 for the BOMU awards, by the government.

He also announced at the event that he is prepared to help individual musicians who encounter problems when seeking for help from government, adding that last year he helped a local music promoter, Seabelo Modibe to get sponsorship from the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture for the annual Booster Bash.
