Kalahari scientist ignites rainbow school

 

With the goal of stimulating minds, nurturing creativity and sparking the imaginations of students, Hartley gave explosive presentations that kept students at the edge of their seats.

“The presentations I give are designed to inspire and motivate our next generation of scientists,” said Hartley.

“The presentations combine the teaching of scientific principles along with demonstrations. The demonstrations help students to see how scientific principles have been applied to the real world, this helps the students to see the practicality of science in their lives,” he added.

Using common household items, with innovation and energetic activities, The Kalahari Scientist experience supports and complements the school curriculum. The experience brings to life what is taught in the classrooms and gives students the needed boost to strive to achieve more in their studies. With a great deal of ‘ohs’ and ‘ahs,’ the presentations amaze and enthral students leaving a lasting impression in their minds.

Said Hartley, “As a former primary and Secondary Science teacher I used to wonder how I could make learning a more fun experience for my students. The Kalahari Scientist has proven to be the most effective way of igniting little scientists in the hearts and minds of students across Southern Africa.”

With Rainbow School being the first school he has visited this year, Hartley looks forward to doing more presentations, throughout Gaborone and all of Botswana.

The presentations combine teaching of scientific principles along with demonstrations. The students are taught how scientific principles have been applied to the real world and their own lives. Students are shown many demonstrations using common household items, as well as others chemicals that students may not be readily familiar with, such as liquid nitrogen.

Originally from Australia, Hartley came to Botswana as a volunteer worker. He has done a number of presentations in Australia and Botswana. He is based in Molepolole.
