BTEF to embark on countrywide tour

The fair will provide a unique opportunity for the public, especially students, to engage with various tertiary education stakeholders.

The tour will hold the road shows in areas such as Palapye, Masunga, Kasane and Gantsi.

Chief Executive Officer, Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) Dr Patrick Molutsi said he was proud to announce the road show at the launch recently.

“The Botswana Tertiary Education Road Show (BTEFRS) comes after a public outcry that the fair, which is held annually is only centralised in Gaborone,” he said.  He said that most students in other parts of the country could not travel to the city to attend the fair.

Molutsi mentioned that the fair will tour with over 22 institutions. He said that it aims to sensitise students outside Gaborone about the main event.

“They too will have the opportunity to be taught on the different courses offered by the various institutions.  They will have the opportunity to be taught on the services of the institution in order to better choose a career path that will suit them,“ said Molutsi.

Although venues could not be specified, the tour is set to take off in Palapye on February 25, followed by Masunga on February 27. On March 1 the fair will be in Kasane before heading out to Maun on March 3. The final leg of the tour will take place in Gantsi on March 5.

Molutsi said: “The tours will not be limited to Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) school leavers but will also be open to Form Four students.  They are also advised to attend the shows, as this will allow them to make career choices at an early stage.”

BTEF was launched in 2010 as the brainchild of the Tertiary Education Council (TEC). This year marks the fair’s fifth year since inception. The event aims to bring together students interested in tertiary education with prospective institutions.

The theme for the year is ‘Gateway To Realising Your Potential And Shaping Your Future’. The main event will be held in Gaborone at Boipuso hall. It will be a combination of the fair and the Botswana Tertiary Education Conference scheduled for March 26 to 29.
