Chiefs fire Drago

Chiefs were beaten 2-1 by Nico United on Wednesday in Selebi Phikwe, a few days after being booted out of the CAF Champions League by Dynamos. Chiefs’ communications manager, Clifford Mogomotsi confirmed the development.

“It’s confirmed. The guy has been asked to go for an early leave,” Mogomotsi told Mmegi Sport. Asked whether early leave meant he would return at some stage, Mogomotsi said he was gone for good.

“He has been set aside while we ensure the boat settles.

I would not say so (that he will come back).”

He added that assistant coach Odirile China’’ Matlhaku would take charge in the interim, while the board maps the way forward. Stanojlovic joined the club at the start of the season, but failed to keep the defending champions atop.

Across town, another troubled Premiership giant Gaborone United has renewed interest in former Township Rollers and Mochudi Centre Chiefs coach, Rahman Gumbo, with reports that they met to him earlier this week.

Gumbo was reportedly in the country early in the week and held talks with the club.

GU suspended their coach David Bright after the weekend CAF Confederations Cup game against SuperSport United.  However, GU secretary Hebert Letsebe was in no mood to discuss the Gumbo issue when contacted for comment.

“I have not heard about Gumbo joining us and I cannot say anything at the moment. George Mogopodi is in charge of the team,” he said. But a GU source confirmed the club’s interest in Gumbo.

“Remember he was here in October last year, but refused to discuss much as long as Bright was still in charge.

Things are a little different right now because Bright is on his way out,” said the source.

Gumbo distanced himself from the said talks, saying he was in Bulawayo at the moment. “I am in Zimbabwe as we speak, I know nothing about GU’s interest,” he said.
