Motswaledi robbers denied bail

On February 14, 2014 near Maruapula shopping complex Bakang Ramontshonyane, Karabo Joseph and Ditiro Reboeleng are suspected to have broken into Motswaledi’s car and stolen a Dell 5520 laptop worth P12,000, an iPad3 worth P8,000 and a Blackberry Storm worth P5,000. The stolen property amounted to P25,000.

Yesterday the court learnt that of the stolen goods, only the iPad had been retrieved whilst the laptop and mobile phone are still missing. The prosecution submitted that the suspects should be remanded in custody pending trial because they may tamper with investigations. The court also heard that the fourth person who is suspected to have also been involved in the incident is still at large.

For his part Ramontshonyane pleaded with the court that he should be granted bail on the grounds that he had to go for a driving test. He assured the court that he will not run away or tamper with investigations. The second accused, Joseph also pleaded with the court that he too has no intentions of running away or tampering with investigations.

Reboeleng, the third accused, submitted that he would get a lawyer. Reboeleng also promised the court that he would not interfere with investigations if given bail. Eventually Magistrate Brown ruled that the trio should remain in custody on the grounds that they may interfere with police investigations.

“The accused persons shall be remanded in police custody pending trial. This is with belief that the accused person may tamper with investigations,” she said.  The next mention is on March 4, 2014.
