Bright set for GU swan song

GU have already suspended David Bright with news doing the rounds that it is only a matter of time before he is dismissed.

Bright could not shed light on the latest developments when contacted for comment yesterday, saying he was under instruction not to comment on the matter.

However, reports are that Bright had clashed with GU management over Moemedi ‘Jomo’ Moatlhaping’s transfer listing and the failure to field Jackie Mothatego in the starting line-up on Saturday.

It is said that Bright enjoyed unlimited support from GU director, Nicholas Zakhem and this irked the management, which felt it was being undermined.

On Saturday after the GU game, the management threatened to resign en-masse and the club was left with no option, but to suspend Bright.

The suspension, sources said, is just a step towards Bright’s official dismissal.

Bright transfer listed Moatlhaping before he was reinstated, while on Saturday; the coach was expected to field Mothatego who has attracted Bloemfontein Celtic’s attention.

Scouts from the South African club were expected to watch the match, but Bright benched the Zebras midfielder. It is said that he felt undermined by Mothatego’s call as his duty was to select the best 11 available on the day and not ‘market’ players.

A date for his hearing has not been set.  GU secretary Hebert Letsebe also could not comment on the matter.

“We do not want to comment on the matter save to confirm that the coach is suspended and George Mogopodi will be in charge in the interim,” Letsebe said.  GU huffed and puffed throughout the 90 minutes in their 1-0 reversal against South Africa’s Supersport United on Saturday. They lost the first leg 2-0.

Mochudi Centre Chiefs fared better in the second leg of their CAF Champions League encounter against Zimbabwean champions, Dynamos.

They fought from a goal down to salvage some pride with a 1-1 draw, but it was insufficient to send them through to the next round after Botswana’s defending champions lost 3-0 in Harare.
