BDP 12Plus1 Celebrates Valentines In Style

The day kick started with introduction of 12Plus1 candidates who each bragged about how they are going to bring development in their wards. Then it was time to celebrate with music, dance, choirs, debate; and a feast of drinks, braai and diphaphata.

The host and BDP parliamentary candidate, Unity Dow told The Monitor that they hosted the event on February 14 to promote the concept of celebrating love amongst BDP members in the constituency. She said that love is not only about family or lovers but also for everyone.

“12Plus1 refers to the 12 council candidates and one parliamentary candidate. We came up with this concept to promote team work and partnership amongst all the candidates,” said Dow.

She said that in recent years, people have extended the celebration of Valentine’s Day not to be only about lovers but people close to them. She said that people no longer send V-Day messages to their lovers or spouses but to their friends, parents, children and workmates. Dow said that Valentine’s Day gives people an opportunity to pause from their daily busy schedules and acknowledge important people in their lives.

“This particular Valentine’s event was intended to promote peace and harmony amongst fellow democrats in Mochudi West. There are members of the branch committee, candidates, democrats who stood for primary elections and did not succeed. This event was made to bring us together as one big happy family who are united. We celebrated V-Day together so that we can be able to support each other all the way,” she added.

Dow expressed her excitement at the young people of Mochudi West more especially the ones from Dikgonnye and Leshibitse for having seen it fit to partake in the event. She said that she was touched by the high attendance of young people, whom education sessions were held for.

“It is important to educate voters about their constituencies and their representatives.

I hope questions and answers session educated the attendants about some of these issues that is why we made this event special,” said Dow.

She said the event was lalavoka (all-night), so that youth could remember it and hopefully share their experiences with others. Also, said Dow, the come-together helped BDP youth to unite, make new friends and socialise as it related to their lifestyle.

12Plus1 council candidates are Baba Molatlhegi of Molatlhegi, Sesebeng Monyake of Rasesa, councilor Wellington Senwelo of Pilane, Gosaboelweng Tau, Dorah Modipane of Bophirima, Wilfred Lebekwe of Moshawana, Piet Themba of Mabodisa, Lesego Matlapeng of Bokone, Ruth Tlhase of Mosanta, Gopolang Modise of Ntshinoge, Tshepo Kwapa of Mosomane, Reginah Rakgati of Dikgonnye and Kgomodiatshaba and Dow.
