Salary hike to widen income gap

The PSP and CJ enjoying a taxable entertainment allowance of P13,236 and with the proposed increment, this will go up by P529.44.

Permanent Secretaries who are earning an entertainment allowance of about P11,508 will have an additional P460.32.

At the bottom of the scale, lies A3 cadres who currently earn about P14,076 annually. With the proposed salary increase, they will take home an extra P46.95. This is a difference of P49,985.49 between them and the PSP and CJ. This week the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM) released a statement proposing a 4% salary adjustment across the board, for the financial year 2014-2015. The increment will take effect on April 1, 2014, provided the negotiations are concluded before the end of March.

'The employee representatives on the other hand maintained that the salary negotiations for 2013-2014 are ongoing until the paper on the conditions of service is brought before the council.

In the above context, with the two parties having failed to reach an agreement, it was resolved that they would go on a 10 working day 'cooling off period' in line with Clause 16.2 of the Rules of engagement for the Salary Negotiations,' the DPSM statement said.
