Crunch time for Chiefs, GU

GU take on South African giants, SuperSport United in the CAF Confederations Cup preliminary round at the National Stadium tomorrow. Chiefs, on the other hand, welcome Dynamos of Zimbabwe at UB Stadium this Sunday in the CAF Champions League.

SuperSport United were expected to jet in yesterday, just a day after registering a 2-0 victory against Mpumalanga Black Aces in the ABSA Premiership match. They beat GU by the same score in the first leg of the continental competition last Saturday.

GU will need to win 3-0 to advance while a 2-0 victory in normal time will take the match to extra time and then a penalty shootout if there is no change in the score line.

Senegalese striker, Mame Niang who scored both goals in the first leg will once again be the key man upfront for SuperSport United. The tall striker is a threat in aerial balls and has proved that he is also very lethal with low balls. His positioning and awareness in the box could be very dangerous for GU defence.

David Bright has said they can reverse the score line and go on to advance to the next stage. They missed several chances last week, leaving them with no away goal, which would have made things easier in the return leg.

Tebogo Sembowa and Ronald Chikomo are expected to lead the attack, while Mandla Mgadla, who was impressive in the first leg, will be expected to run at SuperSport United’s full backs.

Chiefs have an even more difficult task of having to reverse the 3-0 score line they suffered at the hands of Dynamos last Sunday.

They now need a miracle to progress to the next stage with Dynamos expected to play a cautious game. The game is expected to attract many spectators if the last game for Dynamos in Gaborone is to be used as a yardstick.

Dynamos knocked another GU in the same competition in 2010. The two matches kick off at 4:00 pm.
