Reikeletseng quits Games organising committee

He was the committee’s vice chairperson, operations and venues. Reikeletseng said he wants to work with the committee from the BNSC. “I have asked for permission (from the minister) to be released. I want to assist (the games) from the council,” Reikeletseng said. He was quick to dismiss reports that there are cracks within the committee that is tasked with ensuring the successful hosting of Botswana’s biggest sports event ever.

“There are no divisions, the committee is working well. I had the most amazing time and cooperation from the committee,” Reikeletseng said.

He said focus is on ensuring a seamless hosting of the event and ‘not small talk’. “As the chairperson of the BNSC, I am the head of sport in this country and I’ll make sure everything works seamlessly to ensure we host a successful event,” Reikeletseng said.

He said he is determined to see the country host an event that will make the country proud.  A source also dismissed insinuations that they might be divisions in the committee saying preparations for the continental competition were progressing well.

BAYGOC chief executive officer, Tuelo Serufho said he was unaware of Reikeletseng’s departure. However, he said as per procedure, it is the Minister’s prerogative to replace any officer who leaves the committee.  Mmegi Sport could not get Kgathi’s comment at the time of going to press as he said he was busy officiating at a cricket event.

Botswana hosts the 2nd edition of the Youth Games from May 22 to 31 with 2,500 athletes from 54 countries expected to compete in 21 disciplines.
