Swaneng Hill raises fund for anniversary fete

'We are going to have a number of performances including poetry during the event and Moses Lekaukau is going to be the keynote speaker and main fundraiser on the day,” Holzinger told Mmegi.

He said last spring, Swaneng Hill School students held a fundraising walk followed by a braai, on New Year’s Eve. He said that even though the braai was spoiled by the foul weather, the raffle that followed was a success as good money was raised.

Holzinger is one of the earliest teachers at Swaneng Hill School. He said that so far, the preparations for the anniversary have run smoothly and the organising committee is confident that it is going to host a successful event.

“The major event is on March 22 and on that day we expect a large number of Swaneng Hill School alumni to be present. We also expect graduates of the brigades to attend in large numbers,” said Holzinger.

He pointed out that the founder of the school, Patrick Van Rensburg will be honoured on the day although he is not listed as one of the speakers due to ill health.

Swaneng Hill School was founded by Van Rensburg and his wife Liza in February 1963. Since then, it has produced a number of leading figures in government, the arts and politics. The celebrations will be held under the theme: 50 Years of Building Academic Excellence, a Quality Human Resource and National Development
