She said that although Botswana has a long way to go, the country has proven beyond expectation that it has the potential to increase its global competitiveness.

She said it has been a rollercoaster working in Botswana and that she has achieved some of the targets she set for herself when she began her term. She said Botswana can improve its global competitiveness through creativity in the economy. She said there is need for the government arts department to invest more in international exposure so as to make the artistes work more commercially viable.

She hailed Botswana for achieving so much in a very short time with a small population.  “The progress is jaw dropping. I feel the country needs and deserves broader recognition than it is getting now. And my successor has the best job around,” she said.

She said that during her tour of duty, she worked with the youth of Botswana through mentoring and networking.

Prior to her current post, Gavin served as a special assistant to President Barack Obama and as senior director for Africa on the national security staff. Before joining the Obama administration, she was an adjunct fellow for Africa and an international affairs at the council on foreign relations.
