Serowe Stadium ready for use next month

'The Serowe Stadium is expected to be opened for use early next month. And this will help the situation at the Palapye Swallows grounds,' said Botswana Premier League chief executive officer (CEO) Bennet Mamelodi Mamelodi.  Some soccer critics have been calling on the Premier League to strip the Swallows grounds of its status to host top-flight football games arguing that the ground was not up to standard.

This followed the postponement of ECCO City Greens/Motlakase Power Dynamos game because the pitch was waterlogged following torrential rains.

“It will be unfair for Motlakase and Miscellaneous to be always travelling to Selibe-Phikwe and Orapa respectively for their home games,” said Mamelodi.

The principal public relations officer in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Science and Technology, Malepa Dibonwa, said the maintenance works were progressing well at the venue.

Dibonwa said the ministry was working hard to ensure that facilities are in shape in order to develop sports in the country.

For his part, Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) acting CEO Thato Kgosimore, said his council had been invited for a tour of the facility this weekend where the contractor is expected to update the stakeholders on the progress at the stadium.

Kgosimore said the BNSC was working to ensure that the facilities in the country were available to associations and clubs.
