Israel Apartheid week
| Thursday February 6, 2014 15:55
During this week, the BNF will be hosting a number of events in raising awareness on the unfortunate situation that the Palistinians have to contend with on a daily basis. As a party that believes in the concept of international solidarity, we take the struggle of the people of Palestine to be as good as ours.
In January 2013, the United Nations Human Rights Council, an official structure of the UN, found that there is 'institutionalised discrimination' by Israel and its settlements toward the indigenous Palestinians living in the West Bank.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu in 2010, said, 'Together with the peace-loving peoples of the Earth, I condemn any form of violence-but surely we must recognise that people caged in, starved and stripped of their essential material and political rights must resist their Pharaoh! Surely resistance also makes us human! Palestinians have chosen, like we did, the non-violent tools of Boycott, Disinvestment and Sanctions”.
The BNF joins the Boycott, Disinvestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaigns against Israel as a way of raising pressure and giving support to the struggle of the Palestinians. We will also be announcing other activities to raise the profiles of the following campaigns; The Release of Cuban 5, Lifting of the US Blockade on Cuba, Independence of the people of Saharawi, Free political activity and introduction of Democracy in Swaziland. We will not feel free until the status quo has changed in the areas mentioned above.
The BNF position regarding the resolution of the Middle East crisis has not changed; Israel should abide by the United Nations Security Council Resolution 242 of 1967 which called on it to withdraw to the 1967 borders and for all the countries in the Middle East, including Israel to live in peace within secure and recognised boundaries free from threats of force. As the BNF we call upon the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) government, a very close ally of Israel, to reconsider its relations with this Apartheid State. Botswana should boycott Israel and impose sanctions on it.
