Millions of Pula owed to WUC

Mmipi said that it would not be right to name and label those who owe as they have individually signed contracts with all their clients, including government departments. “We cannot name those who owe, but yes we are owed a lot of money by different schools, hospitals, clinics, and many other different government offices and we are doing all we can to get our money back. We have been appealing to all our customers that have outstanding bills to clear them for a while now. We have since resolved to disconnect all those who owe,” said Mmipi. The exercise commenced at the beginning of this year and we will continue until all monies are recovered, she stressed.

However, she said that there are places where they have to be sensitive and find alternatives other than disconnecting them.

“We cannot just disconnect places like hospitals because of the sensitivity of the situation. We regard it our social responsibility not to disconnect them. But we have discussed the issue of unpaid bills at the highest levels and they know that they have to pay,” she continued.

Mmipi further warned that they will hunt down clients in cases where there is outright refusal to pay. “Customers should be aware that if they do not pay after disconnection we will take the next step in our efforts to recover what is due to us. This includes legal action against them.”

She advised that customers who are not in a position to clear their debt should come forward and agree on a payment plan with WUC.
