Disgruntled BNF members to hijack meeting

BNF secretary general Tapiso Kgosikoma has confirmed the planned meeting. The disgruntled members are expected to state their reasons why they are opposed to the use of UDC symbol instead of the BNF brand. The group also wants BNF to pull out of the UDC if other partners in the corporation project – Botswana Movement for Democracy and Botswana Peoples Party - do not accede to the use of the tried and tested BNF symbol.

“Some members of the BNF central committee are expected to come out in the open about their support for the Temporary Concerned Group. Reality on the ground has shown that UDC is hard to sell to the electorates,” said a member of the group.

In a letter written to the BNF central committee they proposed that they be a special congress to decide on the party’s position on the UDC. They reason that the party will not perform well in the coming general elections if they can use the UDC symbol.

The Temporary Concerned Group has been touring some parts of the country to explain to the BNF their misgivings about the UDC project. It seems the group has support in constituencies such as Kanye and Ngwaketse South.

On the other hand the BNF central committee has dispatched some of its members to different constituencies to hear their concerns or anything that troubles them. Kgosikoma, however, insisted that these meetings are part of their normal schedule as the party leadership to consult members. He said during these meetings the members might raise issues and their concerns to the leadership.
