nternal investigations are on-going as to whether the riot police, the SSG's who usually guard the Partial shopping complex, where a Choppies store was raided of cash, may have colluded with the robbers that night.
Police spokesman Dipheko Motube could not comment on Sunday saying he was out of Gaborone, however The Monitor can reveal that the incident has the police authorities concerned as they expected the SSG team, which usually guards the post, to have been there to avert any possible incident.
The Choppies Partial outlet was hit around 730pm on Thursday evening, where unarmed thieves made away with cash collected from tills.
The incident happened when shoppers were busy doing their evening shopping. All of a sudden they were shouted at by masked men ordering them to lie on the floor, as the thugs stole the tills.
However, the crew that robbed the store appear to be inexperienced as they were caught hiding somewhere in Gaborone within less than 12 hours, according to information passed to The Monitor. It was only after the thugs had made away with the cash that the SSG's appeared at the scene. Now The Monitor understands that authorities have launched internal investigations into the SSG unit that was assigned to man the post.
