MAUN: A Motswana man has launched a website promoting a miracle soap he claims prevents HIV infection better than a condom.
The so called miracle soap can be ordered online, where the  self-proclaimed manufacturer and distributor also has a cell-phone number.
However, attempts to reach the owner of the website and the miracle soap, London Mokolwane were not successful as the man who answered it immediately claimed that he was not Mokolwane, but only the web developer.  He promised to provide Mokolwane's number and claimed that Mokolwane is based in Sua Town, where he also works.
According to The Monitor's research, the Mogae HIV soap website is only one month old.
The website says Mo-gae is a patented hygiene soap used after unprotected sex where a 'condom broke or after intercourse with an HIV positive woman to kill the virus at its only weakest stage before it enters the body.'
The information on the site says the products offers a 100% protection against HIV and sexually transmitted diseases.
The website also sensationally promotes sex without a condom, adding that  users can have a child with HIV partners without the risk. 'Use it religiously such that if your partner is promiscuous what she acquires is hers alone' it says, and adds that 'Mo-gae comes with a step-by-step how to use DVD.'
It is ot clear whether the Mo-gae has already been distributed to the public.  Unconfirmed sources told The Monitor that the soap may have been distributed in Maun. One source revealed that he was engaged by Mokolwane to make advertising material for the product and said from the look of things the product is already in distribution. Ngamiland health authorities are unaware of the website.
District Health team head, Dr Christopher Chembe said he still has to go though the website after learning about it from The Monitor before commenting on the issue
National health authorities also denied knowledge of the Mo-gae or whether it is licensed by the Drugs Regulatory Unit. The Ministry of Health public relations officer, Doreen Motshegwa told The Monitor that her ministry is not aware of Mo-gae soap or whether it is a licensed product. However, she revealed that the ministry's official position for HIV prevention is the ABC's (abstinence, be faithful and condomising.) Motshegwa said she will enquire about the Mo-gae HIV claims.
Mokolwane claimed that he identified a company in Zimbabwe that produced the chemicals for making the soap. He writes on the website that his HIV soap is effective saying by using the product he has managed to elude contracting the virus despite having unprotected sex with an HIV positive woman for three years.
He writes: 'today I have never tested positive. I have experimented with this product intensively, in different stages and even where blood was involved. I literally and continuously sacrificed my life to beat the disease and this is a resultant product and I am continuing until the cure.'
Although the website is supposed to have testimonies from beneficiaries of the miracle soap, there seems to be no testimonies, except the one narrated by the owner if the soap.
