Where Was The Police When Choppies Was
Robbed?
O
n Thursday night, Choppies store at Partial was hit by robbers who got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. It was in the evening. Curiously there was police presence on that fateful day. While some in the past have questioned the logic of policing Choppies stores, there is no doubt that police presence around these shopping complexes have acted as a crime deterrent.
It is common knowledge that before the police took it upon themselves to routinely patrol shopping complexes, armed robbers were terrorising these businesses as well as any shoppers caught in the cross fire.
We need the police to maintain peace and order so that our people can shop at any time, without worrying about armed robbers. It is also important that people who work for these shops, do so without any fear of being attacked by robbers or even worse still, being gunned down.
While the police have been doing a good job policing these shopping complexes, we cannot help but ask where they were on Thursday at the time Choppies Partial was robbed?
Of course we are also tempted to ask, how did the robbers know that at that particular time there would be no police presence at Partial Shopping Complex? This negligence by the law and order officers makes many smell a rat as the police were incidentally not around when the thieves chose to hit the said premises. Can this be mere coincidence?
The nation deserves a comprehensive report from the Police commissioner to the circumstances of this case.
While we are comforted by the fact that there was no loss of life in this particular robbery, any state of trauma, terror and horror at the hands of thugs is not good for a stable democracy.
We hope this incident is not an indication of a return of the past two years when people lived in constant terror as robbers ran amok hitting shops willy-nilly.
We appeal to the police to nip this in the bud before it goes any further. We want a peaceful, crime free 2014.
