Last September a resolution was made at a special annual general meeting to merge Wonder Sporting and change the name to Police XI, but up to now the the team has been using the former.
BFA chief executive officer Keith Masters confirmed receiving a letter from the registrar general sanctioning the name change.
He said he was consulting on whether they could allow a club to change names midway through a season or they would have to wait until next season.
'They have been given the go-ahead by the registrar. We have the letter. I should be looking at the statutes to see if we can allow a club to change names in the middle of the season. But if the registrar has given a go-ahead, it is not a big issue,' Masters told Mmegi Sport.
During the September meeting, the general feeling was that it was always going to be difficult for Wonder Sporting to enjoy the benefits of the Botswana Police Services (BPS) if it was not absorbed into the mainstream. The only way to do so was to find a way of making it formally part of BPS by merging the two clubs.
The club's chairman Solomon Mantswe said they had communicated with the association. He stressed people should start referring to them as Police XI.
The name change comes at a time when a two-season P1 million sponsorship from Dynamic Insurance Brokers has been launched.
Wonder Sporting won promotion into the elite league last season while Police XI was deregistered the previous season.
The Jungle Kings were axed together with Security Systems, who had just won promotion, after the Gaborone Regional Football Association (GRFA) informed BFA that the clubs had not paid annual subscription fees of P300.
Meanwhile, Botswana Meat Commission is also in the process of helping BMC Football Club's new owners change the name to FC Rangers.'We are getting help from the company to change the names. Hopefully when we start next season the process will have been done,” said club manager Nelson Radijeng.
