ico United remain hopeful of reversing the 5-2 loss that they suffered at the hands of BDF XI in the Mascom Top Eight clash at SSKB Stadium over the weekend.
Nico coach Kenneth Mogae told Mmegi Sport that they had not thrown in the towel. He said his plan was to pull a win when the two sides meet in the second leg in Selebi-Phikwe.
Perhaps how Nico will fare when the two teams clash in a beMOBILE Premier League match on Saturday will be an indicator of what to expect in the second leg.
Mogae said his approach to the game was to contain BDF and hammer them on counter attacks but unfortunately his plan did not work. He observed that his wingers did not function and BDF X1 took advantage of that and attacked them. BDF X1 were able to win the game because they utilised the chances that they created. Mogae highlighted that Nico players were unable to clear before balls got into the danger zone.
Mogae said that the striker that he used was forced to collect balls for himself because the midfield was failing to supply.
He had hoped that in the second half the players would stabilise and hold on to avoid goals but that did not happen and they got punished due to simple mistakes that they made.
Meanwhile, Mogae said they had not taken a decision on the six players from Zambia who had been undergoing trials at Nico since December. The players have been arriving at different times for trials. A decision is expected by Friday after his meeting with the team chairperson, Mothusi Taolo. He was not at liberty to reveal the names of the players who will be joining Nico.
