JC class of 2013 not that good

A statement from the communications division says that a total of 3, 788 (9.7%) candidates passed with Grade B in 2013 compared to 4,745 (12.4%) in 2012 representing a decline of 2.7%. total of 9,629 candidates obtained Grade C in 2013 whereas 10,386 (27.1%), were awarded this grade in 2012, indicating a decline of 2.4 percent. 

'The number of candidates awarded Grade D in 2013 is 13,662 (35.1%) compared to 13,641 (35.6%) in 2012, showing a slight decrease of 0.5%,” according to the communication.  

An additional 651 candidates obtained Grade E (a sum of 5,540), compared to 4,889 in 2012 showing an increase of 1.5 percent, whereas 5,592 (14.4 percent of the candidature obtained Grade U. 

'There are 412 candidates who have not been awarded an overall grade and these are indicated by symbol X,' reads the statement.

In overall, 35.3 percent candidates obtained Grade C or better in comparison to 41.0 percent in 2012.

A total of 38,944 candidates compared to 38,497 in 2012 wrote the 2013 examination showing an increase of 1.2 percent.

Out of the 38,944 candidates there were 19,490 male candidates and 19,454 female candidates. 

Lastly, BEC noted that there have been changes to the effect that Grade U only denotes that a candidate did not meet minimum requirements for Grade E. In 2012 the grade served dual purposes in that it either meant that a candidate did not meet minimum requirements for Grade E or did not qualify for an overall grade.
