Mmegi: What is causing the delay in the release of the 2013 JCE results?
Makgalemele: There is no delay, the BEC is on target to deliver on time and in line with agreed and planned timeframe. The results are not late, they will be released within targeted time.
Mmegi: What is the expected date of release?
Makgalemele: The JCE Results are always released during the month of January, so they will be out before January 31.
Mmegi: Have you been having technical challenges with the newly introduced web?
Makgalemele: BEC had not experienced any technical challenges with the web-based exams processing system, Malepa. Not last year and not this year. BEC was not using Malepa last year and even in 2013 for the JCE Exams. The system that was used is called LEGACY for JCE Exams and it has no technical problems.
Mmegi: In recent years, the JCE results have been released later than it has been tradition, which has led to Form Four classes starting two months or so after the rest of other classes. Is there a time frame or deadline allocated to marking and processing of results?
Makgalemele: JCE Results have not been released late. In the past, student population was low. Now BEC is dealing with more candidates. Also, since 2010, the school calendar has changed.
The first year of senior secondary school (Form 4 class) has always started later than other classes for many years and therefore, this could not be a problem as it is the norm. BEC has an examinations cycle that runs for twelve months in a year, meaning work is done by following timelines that are allocated to the activities in the cycle.
Mmegi: Last week BEC circulated a communiqué on how results can be accessed. What motivated the institution to issue the statement?
Makgalemele: The educational communiqué or advertorial on how to access results was sent out last week to ensure that the BEC JCE candidates familiarise themselves with the process of accessing results via short message system (SMS) and Website technologies prior to the release of results. This was done merely to help the students to be knowledgeable on how to access results by the time their results are out.
Mmegi: Don’t you think the statement is lacking in information since it does not indicate when results will be out and creates an impression that results are out? Since the statement, Mmegi has received numerous calls from members of the public wondering if the results were out.
Makgalemele: The statement is not lacking in any way, it could not have any other information because it is basically an educational document on how to access results and has nothing to do with the dates for the release of results.
In the future kindly refer the callers to BEC for any information they need to know about the results, as they are BEC customers.
