Francistown region was forced to hear five cases yesterday and to drive to Gaborone to listen to an issue, which Phandu Skelemani protested Francistown East constituency results, which were won by former mayor, Buti Billy.
The BDP primary elections appeals task team will hear Skelemani’s case today and the region will have to defend their decision after it ordered for a re-run. The region maintains that civil servants voted whilst they were not supposed to do so. Skelemani is not bound to attend the hearing.
Francistown region also had to decide the Tati East constituency issue after the complaints felt that the region committee is conflicted in the matter as they (committee) campaigned for Samson Moyo Guma during last year’s BDP congress.
The other issue that they raised is that majority of BDP members who stay in that area were denied a chance to cast their vote because their names did not appear on the voters roll. Although the region refused to shed light on these issues, Mmegi has heard that they had dismissed Peter Chuku’s protest at Tati East constituency and maintained a re-run for Francistown East.
BDP executive secretary Sechele Sechele would not comment on this matter because these cases are still going to be heard and referred Mmegi to the central committee.
Francistown region chairperson, councillor Ford Moiteela confirmed that certain cases have been referred back to them but he refused to share more information.
